Artist Statement
Over this pass semester I have been in photography class. I have learned a lot of techniques that have empowered my photography skills. Through all the photoshoots and in class editing projects we have done. For instance we have had two photo shoots that stick out to me would be the shutter speed and aperture photoshoots that helped me fully understand how to use them. Another thing is that we are able to edit all the images we take on our photoshoots which only make the photos better. In the visual arts, composition is the placement or arrangement of visual elements or ingredients in a work of art, as distinct from the subject. The way I use composition in my photography is i use different techniques like don't center, rule of thirds, leading lines, get close, and much more. I would say out of all the different techniques I tend to use rule of thirds the most. Overall you can probably guess we have had a kind of a lot of assignments. Out of all the assignments my favorite one would be the rules of composition assignment. I think that because we had to take 3 photos of each rule which was a total of 30 photos and I enjoyed being challenged to find these photos. Also I have a least favorites assignment which would be the shutter speed shoot and the reason be is because I didn't understand it entirely but I got it done. Throughout this semester we have been also trying to find or create out voice in our photos. The reason I said that is because I would say that my voice is my perspective of my life and the photos I take are things I'm surrounded with and see all the time. Back to the assignments though my best assignment I did I think would be my favorite one which was the rules of composition. But I have not all of it has come easy because i struggled with my shutter seed shot because I knew how to take the picture but didn't have the correct things to take a picture to represent the blur background while the object/person is in focus. Moving on throughout the new year and rest of the school year I want to only improve my photography skills while learning new techniques as well. Overall I feel like I'm becoming a better photographer and enjoying it as well.
